Methodology
- Vendor page fetched same day. We read the vendor's own site, including pricing, on the day we write the listing.
- Fact-check. A separate Opus fact-check pass compares each claim to the fetched pages.
- "Last checked" dates. Every listing shows the date of its last check and links to its sources.
- Weekly re-check. Listings are re-checked each week for changes in features and pricing.
- Dead tools hidden. If a tool disappears or stops being available, we remove it from the directory.
- Tested versus not tested. Unless we say we tested a tool, it is labelled "Based on public information — not tested".
- Paid is not ranked. Sponsored placements are labelled and do not change ratings or the order of the free list. We do not publish aggregate star ratings.
Frequently asked questions
How do you verify a listing?
We fetch the vendor's own pages on the day we check them, record the pages used as sources, and have the facts fact-checked before publishing.
What does "Last checked" mean?
It is the date we last confirmed the listing against the vendor's public pages. We re-check listings weekly.
What is the difference between tested and not tested?
Most listings are based on public information only and are labelled "not tested". A tool is marked as tested only when we have used it ourselves.
Does paying change a listing?
No. Sponsored placements are labelled, and they never change ratings or the order of the free list.
